Terms of use
Draft, not yet reviewedLast updated 19 October 2026
These are the terms for using TasteBoxd, a movie and TV recommender built for households. By creating an account, joining the waitlist, or using the app, you agree to them. They are short and in plain English; if anything is unclear, ask.
Who runs this
TasteBoxd is operated by Zane Cooke, Austin, TX. "We" and "us" below mean the operator.
What the service is
TasteBoxd keeps track of what you and your household have watched and how you felt about it, and uses that, together with film and series data from TMDB and AI models from Anthropic, to suggest what to watch next. It is currently in a private beta. Features may change, pause, or be removed while we work out what it should be.
Your account and your household
- You need to be at least 13 to use TasteBoxd.
- Accounts belong to a household of one or two people. Everyone in the household can see each other's ratings, lists, and taste notes. Only invite someone you are happy sharing that with.
- Keep your sign-in details to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- You may stop using the service and ask us to delete your account at any time.
Your content
Your ratings, lists, and notes are yours. You give us permission to store them, show them to your household, and send the relevant parts to our AI and data providers so that the service can work, as described in the privacy page. We do not claim ownership of anything you write, and we do not sell it.
What we ask of you
- Do not try to break into the service, scrape it, or overload it.
- Do not use it to harass anyone, including your household partner.
- Do not import or upload data you do not have the right to use.
- Do not resell access or build a competing product on top of our API without asking first.
Recommendations are suggestions
The picks are generated by an AI model from your ratings and notes. They can be wrong, repetitive, or oddly confident. They are a starting point for a conversation on the couch, not a guarantee that you will like the film. Content ratings, availability, and running times come from third-party data and may be out of date.
Third-party data
This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. Titles, posters, and metadata are provided by TMDB under its own terms. Recommendations are generated using Anthropic's Claude API.
Payment
The beta is free. If we introduce paid plans, you will see the price and what it includes before you are charged, and these terms will be updated to cover billing, renewals, and refunds.
Availability and liability
We run this as a small service and try hard to keep it up, but it is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for lost data, a wasted evening, or any indirect loss from using the service, to the extent the law allows. If we ever charge you, our total liability is capped at what you paid us in the previous twelve months.
Ending things
You can leave any time by asking us to delete your account. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we will tell you why. If we shut the service down, we will give you notice and a way to export your ratings first.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and tell signed-in users in the app before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, and any dispute will be handled in the courts of Travis County, Texas, unless the law where you live gives you other rights.
